Shamanism is humanity's earliest known spiritual practice and can be traced back to the dawn of time as we know it. Shamanism is a global phenomenon and examples of this ancient practice can be found all over the world. The word Shaman is generally known as being a Siberian word for a spiritual healer, or ‘One who knows' or ‘One who sees in the dark’.
The primary practice of Shamanism is the art of shamanic journeying, which occurs when a part the shaman's consciousness 'takes flight' and leaves this ordinary reality to enter the non-ordinary shamanic spiritual realities. This is achieved by using the all-important shamanic drum, which slows the brainwaves down from the active Beta level to the much slower Theta level, thus allowing the Shaman to achieve an ecstatic trance state
A shaman's primary purpose is to facilitate healing work, rituals, and ceremonies, which historically could mean the difference between life and death for an indigenous tribe. This is achieved by the shaman's two-way working relationship with helping and benevolent spirits in the spirit world, who are also known as spirit guides. Shamans and Shamanic Practitioners dedicate their lives to healing self, healing others, healing the community, and healing Mother Earth.
